Holistic Massage
A
creative, flexibe, oil-based massage, Holistic Massage combines
intuition and sensitivity with techniques firmly grounded in Swedish
massage and sound anatomical/physiological knowledge. It can also draw
on a range of other healing traditions where appropriate.
Holistic massage provides a caring, non-intrusive touch in a safe environment, and can be gentle or firm/deep. The main difference between it and other approaches is that the focus is on treating clients as individuals rather than just following set techniques. A therapist recognises the interconnection of all aspects of an individual: physical, mental, emotional and spiritual, and aims to treat a person on all levels rather than seeing the body as something separate to be “fixed”.
Physical benefits include temporary pain relief, decreased heart rate and blood pressure, improved circulation to skin and muscles, elimination of accumulated toxins from skin, muscles and blood, increased muscular tone and relaxation, better digestion and sleep.
The range of psychological benefits is wide and can include decreased anxiety and stress levels, increased mental clarity and focus, and an increase in general feelings of wellbeing and positive feelings such as balance, security, self-esteem and trust.
Holistic massage, like many other bodily therapies, can be a valuable adjunct to “talking therapies” such as counselling in that it can boost the healing process by releasing emotional or energetic blockages stored in bodily tissues. It can provide the individual with space to go deeply inside, sometimes producing feelngs similar to those experienced in meditation or spiritual healing.
