About Me ~ Marion Moody

Following
my graduation from Nottingham University with a B A Hons in German, I
spent several years teaching English abroad. On my return to the UK,
after a long spell of unemployment, I suffered what most people would
call mental illness. Sensing that there was more to it, I chose to see
my problems as more of a healing crisis. I avoided the conventional
routes of psychiatric involvement and labels, continued to pursue a
career in teaching and gradually found my recovery first through
reading and self help, then later through combining counselling and
psychotherapy combined with bodily therapies; mainly dance, movement
and breathwork. |
I began to discover an
unusual sensitivity and
intuition which I did not feel that my teaching would allow me to
express fully, along with experiencing a growing desire to help people
suffering similarly in the way that I had been helped. This led me to a
change of direction, the first step of which was to study holistic
massage at the Bristol College of Massage and Bodywork, qualifying in
1998 with the MTI Certificate.
I practiced from
home and in
several centres, at the same time supporting myself by working as a
support worker to people with learning and physical disabilities and
mental health issues. A few years later I studied counselling
part-time, gaining the Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling in 2002.
Since
mid 2006 I have been seriously working on building my private practice,
while continuing to do support work on a relief basis. As well as this
I have had several voluntary counselling positions in agencies such as
Counselling South Wales (Dec 2007-present), Cardiff Women in Mind (June
2005-June 2007), Cardiff Women's Aid (Oct 2002-Dec 2004), Vale Alcohol
and Drug Team (Oct 2003 – May 2004) and Age Concern (Oct 2002 – June
2003).
I am working
towards BACP accreditation, which I hope to
be able to apply for in October 2008. I am also studying Reiki level 1,
and hope to complete practitioner level later this year. I abide by
both MTI's Code of Ethics and BACP's Guidelines for Good Practice,
receive regular monthly supervisions for counselling and occasional
supervision for massage.
